NEET 2026 PAPER DIFFICULTY ANALYSIS

Subject-wise difficulty assessment with key observations for each section

Expert Assessment
Physics
Moderate to Hard
  • ✦ Current Electricity dominated with 6 questions — highest single chapter
  • ✦ Multiple circuit analysis problems requiring deep numerical ability
  • ✦ Wave Optics (Young's Double Slit) had conceptual intensity
  • ✦ Match-the-List format in Q2, Q18, Q40 added complexity
  • ✦ Modern Physics (Atomic + Nuclear) appeared 3 times combined
  • ✦ Students scoring 30+ in Physics performed above average
Chemistry
Moderate
  • ✦ Organic Chemistry (29% of section) tested reactions & mechanisms
  • ✦ Coordination Chemistry isomerism questions were NCERT-level
  • ✦ Chemical Kinetics (Q56, Q83, Q88) — Arrhenius & order-based
  • ✦ Inorganic (p-Block, d-Block, f-Block) combined = 8 questions
  • ✦ Mole Concept & Stoichiometry tested calculation speed
  • ✦ Overall scoring range: 100–140/180 for good students
Botany
Moderate
  • ✦ Plant Morphology & Anatomy — 8 questions, all NCERT direct
  • ✦ Molecular Biology (PCR, DNA fingerprinting, restriction enzymes)
  • ✦ Biodiversity & Conservation featured statement-based questions
  • ✦ Photosynthesis included RuBP carboxylase & RQ calculation
  • ✦ Mostly conceptual — NCERT line-by-line reading rewarded
  • ✦ Target score for strong Biology students: 35–42/45
Zoology
Moderate
  • ✦ Animal Kingdom — 8 questions, highest in Zoology; needs thorough classification
  • ✦ Human Physiology across all systems = 11 questions combined
  • ✦ Biotechnology (pBR322, Bt crops, transgenic) = 5 questions
  • ✦ Evolution & Human evolution sequence tested (Q140, Q179)
  • ✦ Cell Biology appeared twice — Ribosomes, cell membrane
  • ✦ Target score for strong Biology students: 35–42/45

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common queries about NEET 2026 paper pattern and preparation strategy

Current Electricity & Circuits had the most questions in NEET 2026 Physics with 6 questions (Q3, Q9, Q12, Q16, Q26, Q29) — 13.3% of the Physics section. This included diode circuits, galvanometer conversion, metre bridge, terminal voltage, and power calculations. Electrostatics & Capacitors (3 Qs), Oscillations (3 Qs), Laws of Motion (3 Qs), and Units & Measurement (3 Qs) were the next most important.
Organic Chemistry dominated NEET 2026 Chemistry with 13 questions — nearly 29% of the entire Chemistry section. Questions Q46, Q47, Q51, Q52, Q58, Q61, Q64, Q66, Q69, Q72, Q74, Q81, and Q89 covered alcohol reactions, haloalkanes, Lassaigne's test, metamers, sigma/pi bond counts, aromatic ketones, phthalein dye test, IUPAC nomenclature, and isocyanide reactions.
In Botany, Plant Morphology & Anatomy had 8 questions (Q100–Q103, Q107, Q109, Q112, Q133) — the highest single chapter in Botany. Molecular Biology & Gene Expression was second with 7 questions. In Zoology, Animal Kingdom & Classification also had 8 questions (Q142, Q150, Q153, Q159, Q164, Q166, Q171, Q177) — the highest in Zoology. Both are non-negotiable for NEET 2027 preparation.
Physics was Moderate to Hard — numerical heavy with complex circuit problems. Chemistry was Moderate — Organic Chemistry was extensive but largely NCERT-traceable. Biology (Botany + Zoology) was Moderate — mostly NCERT statement-based and conceptual. The expected cutoff for General category is estimated between 680–710/720 for top medical colleges. A student scoring 35+ in each Biology section and 120+ in Physics+Chemistry combined would be highly competitive.
Based on NEET 2026 data: Physics — Current Electricity, Electrostatics, Optics, Oscillations. Chemistry — Organic reactions & mechanisms, Coordination Compounds, Chemical Kinetics, p-Block Elements. Botany — Plant Morphology, Molecular Biology (PCR, DNA fingerprinting), Biodiversity & Conservation, Photosynthesis. Zoology — Animal Kingdom classification, Biotechnology applications, Evolution, complete Human Physiology. NCERT thorough reading (text + examples + diagrams + exercises) is essential for Biology, as most questions are directly traceable.
NEET 2026 had a very high proportion of Match-the-List (MTL) questions across all four subjects. In Physics: Q2, Q18, Q40. In Chemistry: Q50, Q53, Q56, Q69, Q82, Q90. In Botany: Q93, Q94, Q99, Q109, Q110, Q114, Q126, Q130, Q135. In Zoology: Q141, Q146, Q147, Q157, Q158, Q169, Q177, Q179. This format tests not just knowledge but the ability to eliminate wrong combinations — practising previous years' MTL questions is a high-yield strategy.
